Weather has fascinated me since I was eight years old. I grew up watching The Weather Channel and seeking out severe-weather coverage whenever I could. I wanted to understand not only what was happening in the atmosphere, but how weather affected landscapes, communities, and the people experiencing it.
That curiosity still shows up in my writing. I usually start with a question, a pattern, or a place, then use research, data, and maps to understand it. These samples cover severe winter weather, climate change, ecology, environmental research, and GIS. I am interested in both the science itself and what it means for the places and people it affects.
I want my writing to be accurate without feeling distant to the reader. A coastline, a mountain valley, a winter storm, or a marsh is more than a set of numbers. Writing gives me another way to make those patterns understandable and connect them back to real places and people.
